Staff with admin access to a Canvas sub-account (building/school level) can quickly locate any teacher's course without knowing the exact course name. This is useful when you need to open a course to edit content, update links, troubleshoot eLearning resources, or assist a teacher with their course.
Step 1: Open the Admin panel.
In the global navigation menu on the left side of Canvas, click “Admin.”

Step 2: Select your sub-account.
Click the sub-account you have access to (e.g., “East Allen University” or “Paul Harding Junior High School”). This opens the courses list scoped to that building.
Step 3: Go to Courses.
The sub-account opens to the Courses page by default. Notice the search bar in the top right is set to search by “Course” – this is what we'll change in the next step.

Step 4: Switch the search filter to "Teacher."
Click the dropdown next to the search box (it shows “Course” by default) and select “Teacher” from the Search by list.

Step 5: Search for the teacher.
Type the teacher's last name into the search box. Canvas will filter the course list in real time to show only the courses assigned to that teacher, across all terms.

Step 6: Open the correct course.
Review the filtered list – a teacher may haev sevberal course sections(e.g., multiple periods of World History or U.S. History). Click the course name that matches what you need.
Step 7: Edit the course.
You're now inside the course as an admin. From here you can edit pages, update links, manage modules, and make any other changes needed to support the teacher's setup.
