Overview

Using this guide, you will be able to use the 3D printer's basic functions.

Basic 3DWOX Usage

Sending a File to the Printer

  • Navigate to Thingiverse and find the "thing" that you'd like to print.
  • After selecting your model, click "Download All Files". This will download a .zip folder to your computer
  • Right click on the folder that it downloaded and select "Extract All"

  • Menu that appears after clicking "Extract All"
Here the location of the .stl file that you will use
  • Leave the default file location and click extract. This will place a folder in the same location as your .zip file which you can use to access your .stl file. It is located in the extracted folder inside of the "files" folder as seen above.
  • At this point, you will need the 3DWOX Desktop software installed on your computer. If it is not already installed, contact your building technician for approval and installation.
  • Click and drag the .stl file from the location above and into the 3DWOX software, you will be greeted with this view. Your model will appear yellow in the software, but will print in whatever color you currently have loaded into the printer.
  • On the left side, you see an option for "Settings" which you want to select.
  • In this menu, you can make some adjustments before sending the file to the printer. The only settings that is recommended to change in this menu is the "Support" setting. A general rule of thumb for adding support is that it is only needed when there is an overhang of over 45 degrees in the model. By changing "Placement" to "Everywhere", 3DWOX will analyze the model to determine where support is needed and place it accordingly. Adding support cannot do any harm! After changing these settings, select "Apply"
  • Once you have saved these settings, you can hit print and the software will prepare the file for printing.
  • The software will show a camera view of the bed so that you can confirm that nothing was left on the bed from the last print. If the printer bed is empty, select print.
  • In the upper right hand corner of the screen after selecting "Print" you can see how long the print will take and the amount of filament that will be used.

Removing a Print from the Bed

  • After the print has completed, you will need to remove it from the bed.
  • At the front of the bed, there are two tabs that you can use to remove the magnetic bed from the plate. Grab these tabs and lift upward, the bed will lift off the plate
  • This bed is flexible. After removing the bed it, you can bend it to remove the print.
  • Replace the bed on the plate by aligning the back corners of the bed with the locating tabs at the back of the plate.
  • Remove the supports if needed and you're all done! Note the "zits" that were left by the support material. These can be removed by sanding or using a small X-acto knife to cut them away.
